NORTH ADAMS — The North Adams Police Department has identified a suspect who allegedly attempted to steal merchandise from Walmart and assaulted a store employee.
The incident occurred June 13 when a male suspect tried to push a shopping cart containing approximately $436 worth of unpaid merchandise out of the store.
A Walmart Asset Protection employee intervened and attempted to stop the suspect.
The suspect then assaulted the Asset Protection employee and fled on foot toward the Town of Adams.
Police had sought public assistance in identifying the individual but announced Tuesday that the suspect has been identified.
The case was handled by the North Adams Police Department Detective Unit under Detective Sergeant Zustra’s supervision.
