SPRINGFIELD — A 61-year-old Claremont, New Hampshire man was arrested Sunday after allegedly breaking into a vehicle and assaulting the owner at the Springfield Park and Ride.
James J. Dunbar was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful mischief, unlawful trespass and petit larceny following the incident that occurred at approximately 10:52 a.m. Saturday.
Springfield police responded to reports of an individual breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers found Dunbar being restrained by the victim.
Police said their investigation revealed Dunbar allegedly broke into the victim’s vehicle, strangled the victim and attempted to steal multiple items from the vehicle.
Dunbar was taken into custody and issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division Windsor Unit on Tuesday.
He was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility and held without bail.
