BARTON — A 52-year-old Colchester man was arrested early Monday morning after leading Vermont State Police on a chase along Interstate 91 while allegedly driving under the influence.

Ronald Finkley was charged with driving under the influence (third offense), grossly negligent operation, eluding a police officer and driving with a criminally suspended license following the incident that began around 3:20 a.m. on June 16.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury Barracks initially responded to a report of an impaired operator who was unresponsive in Lyndon.

The operator became responsive and left the area before troopers arrived.

With assistance from members of the public, the vehicle was located traveling southbound on I-91 in Barton.

Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop for observed motor vehicle violations.

The operator refused to stop and continued traveling south on I-91 at speeds between 40-60 mph despite the use of lights and sirens.

Troopers successfully deployed spike strips, and the operator pulled over shortly after near Exit 25.

During the stop, Finkley displayed numerous signs of impairment, according to police.

Finkley was arrested without incident and transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing.

He was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Orleans Criminal Division on July 1 at 8 a.m.
