LAWRENCE — Members of the Patrol Division responded to a hit-and-run collision involving a sedan and a dirt bike near the intersection of Summer Street and Newbury Street in the early morning hours of Monday, June 16.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that two male riders from the dirt bike had been transported to Lawrence General Hospital for medical treatment.
The sedan involved had fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Officers responded to the hospital and made contact with both individuals, who were subsequently identified.
A review of city surveillance cameras captured footage of the incident.
The video showed the dirt bike traveling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at a posted stop sign, which directly led to the collision with the sedan.
Further investigation, including the use of various law enforcement tools and resources, allowed the Detective Division to identify both the sedan and its operator.
The operator of the dirt bike is being summoned to court on charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
