Cortland man charged after motorcycle chase through county

CORTLAND — A 22-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from police on a motorcycle June 11.

Joshua A. Brickey of Owego Street was arrested at 8:22 p.m. following a chase that began in the Town of Cortlandville and ended in the City of Cortland, according to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop two motorcycles for traffic violations at approximately 8:10 p.m. in Cortlandville, but both riders refused to stop, police said.

Brickey was eventually stopped in the city with assistance from the Cortland City Police Department and taken into custody without further incident.

He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing and later released on appearance tickets.

Brickey is charged with unlawful fleeing police in a motor vehicle in the third degree and reckless driving, both misdemeanors.

He also faces multiple traffic infractions including speed not reasonable and prudent, improper passing, failure to signal, failure to comply with a police officer, driving across hazard markings, failure to stop at a red light, driving in the center lane and improper turn signal.

Brickey is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Town of Cortlandville Court on June 23 at 1:00 p.m. and in Cortland City Court on June 23 at 9:00 a.m.
