3 Providence residents among 4 arrested by Rhode Island State Police

LINCOLN WOODS — Rhode Island State Police made four arrests Tuesday on charges ranging from reckless driving to drug possession.

At 10:47 a.m., troopers arrested Braian Sosa Torres, 22, of 139 Superior Street, Floor 1, Providence, for reckless driving, first offense.

The arrest resulted from a motor vehicle stop on Canal Street in Providence.

Torres was transported to the Lincoln Woods Barracks for processing and later taken to Sixth District Court for arraignment.

At 11:10 a.m., troopers arrested Carlos Mieses Benitez, 34, of 122 Mawney Street, Providence, for leaving the scene of an accident.

The arrest resulted from a barracks investigation by troopers who subsequently located Benitez on Broad Street in Providence.

Benitez was transported to the Lincoln Woods Barracks for processing and later taken to Sixth District Court for arraignment.

At 6:45 p.m., troopers arrested Joshua Tillinghast, 35, of 44 Pocasset Street, Johnston, for larceny under $1,500, fraudulent use of credit cards and obtaining credit card through fraudulent means.

The arrest resulted from a barracks investigation and the Pawtucket Police Department subsequently locating Tillinghast.

Tillinghast was transported to the Lincoln Woods Barracks for processing, arraigned as a probation violator and turned over to the Men’s Adult Correctional Institute.

At 11:15 p.m., troopers arrested Douglas Cooper, 60, of 68 Dartmouth Avenue, Providence, for possession of Schedule I-V controlled substance.
