WOODSTOCK — A 60-year-old Oxford man died Sunday evening after his motorcycle crashed on South Main Street at Route 232 following an encounter with a pickup truck that left the scene.
Oxford County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Woodstock Fire Department, Pace Rescue and Bethel Rescue responded to the crash at approximately 7:50 p.m.
The motorcycle driver was gravely injured when emergency responders arrived and CPR was in progress.
A 50-year-old female passenger from Oxford was also seriously injured in the crash.
Both victims were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
The male driver subsequently died from his injuries.
The female passenger remains hospitalized with significant injuries.
Other motorcyclists reported they were traveling in the same direction as a gray diesel GM pickup truck on Merrifield Hill.
The pickup was in the right lane when the lead motorcycle in the group attempted to pass.
As the motorcycle began to pass, the truck abruptly moved left into the same lane as the motorcycle.
The motorcycle driver lost control and the bike left the roadway, crashing into the wooded area alongside the road.
The GM pickup truck did not stop and left the area.
Oxford County and Androscoggin County Sheriff’s crash reconstructionists are investigating the incident.
Investigators are working to identify the truck and driver.
The vehicle is described as a late-model four-door GM diesel pickup, gray in color, last seen traveling southbound on Route 26.
Investigators have located surveillance video of the truck in question.
