CORTLAND — Police have arrested a man in connection with a gunfire incident that occurred June 14 near the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Washington Street.
Officers responded to a report of a weapon being discharged on the evening of June 14.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a witness who reported observing an argument involving two men.
During the incident, one of the men was seen brandishing a black and silver handgun.
Witnesses reported hearing the male make threatening remarks before firing a single round toward the rear of 78 Clinton Avenue.
No injuries were reported.
A shell casing was recovered at the scene.
Officers canvassed the neighborhood and reviewed video surveillance from the property, which corroborated witness accounts.
The suspect was identified by witnesses as Jordan Smith.
He was last seen leaving the area on foot following the discharge of the weapon.
Detectives interviewed several residents, including individuals acquainted with the suspect.
Smith was located and arrested June 15.
He faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal use of a firearm in the second degree and reckless endangerment in the first degree.
