BEDFORD — Two Bedford police officers were injured after being struck by a driver who attempted to flee during an investigation at a local hotel parking lot early Sunday morning, leading to arrests of the driver and passenger.
At approximately 3:10 a.m. June 15, a Bedford police officer on patrol observed a running vehicle in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn and Suites on Hawthorne Drive with two unconscious occupants inside.
After backup was called to the scene and a police investigation was initiated, the driver of a 2023 Nissan Sentra attempted to flee, striking two officers and two police cruisers.
The officers were injured in the collision but were able to stop the driver in the parking lot and arrest him at the scene.
Brandon Legere, 43, of Manchester, was arrested and charged with felony DUI, assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and possession of controlled drugs.
Additional charges are pending against Legere, who has been held on preventive detention and will appear before a judge Monday morning.
The passenger, a woman, was also arrested on warrants and a charge of possession of controlled drugs and is still being processed at the Bedford Police Department.
Both injured officers were treated and released from local hospitals.
“I want to commend our officers who made these arrests in a very dangerous situation,” Chief Daniel Douidi said.
The investigation is ongoing.
