Springfield police arrest man with loaded firearm, outstanding warrant

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit detectives arrested a 19-year-old man Thursday afternoon who was carrying a loaded firearm and had an outstanding warrant for firearms charges.

Detectives arrested Alexis Figueroa of Springfield at approximately 4:35 p.m. near the intersection of Bay Street and Roosevelt Avenue.

Around 4:30 p.m., a detective observed Figueroa as a passenger in a car on Bay Street and knew there was an arrest warrant issued for him from Chicopee District Court for firearms offenses.

Assisting detectives and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department deputies conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle.

Figueroa was placed under arrest for the warrant and had an illegal firearm in his hoodie pocket.

The driver was released from the scene.

Detectives also recovered a baby bottle filled with what is believed to be promethazine and codeine syrup.

Figueroa is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of a Class B drug.

The outstanding warrant from Chicopee District Court includes charges of carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon, receiving a stolen motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
