CHAMPION — State Police responded to a residence on State Route 3 June 12 at 4:40 a.m. for a report of a burglary.
Troopers interviewed the homeowner who stated that they found a male inside their residence stealing items.
The male ran off when confronted by the homeowner.
While searching the area, troopers located a male matching the suspect description walking through the woods on a neighboring property.
Troopers took the male into custody and he was positively identified by the homeowner as the suspect.
The suspect was identified as Philip E. Winkemplek, 38, of Carthage.
Winkemplek was charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony.
Winkemplek was arraigned in Jefferson County CAP Court and remanded to jail on $10,000 cash, $15,000 bond or $20,000 partially secure bond.
