BOSTON — Boston Police arrested a 20-year-old Dorchester man on multiple firearm-related charges following a traffic stop Thursday night.
Javonni Walters was taken into custody after officers recovered a loaded handgun during the incident, police said.
At about 10:27 p.m., officers assigned to District B-3 responded to 105 Erie Street for a radio call of a group causing a disturbance where a firearm was reportedly displayed.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male suspect running from the area and gave chase, but the suspect escaped.
An officer in an unmarked cruiser later located the suspect getting into a vehicle with several other males.
A marked police cruiser then observed the vehicle operating on Michigan Avenue with a defective right taillight and initiated a traffic stop at 21 Michigan Avenue.
During the stop, the front and rear passengers initially refused to roll down their windows before eventually complying with officers’ requests.
Officers ordered all occupants to exit the vehicle, but the rear passenger refused to comply and had to be removed.
A fanny pack was observed near the rear passenger’s seat.
A search of the vehicle and bag revealed a firearm inside the pack.
B-3 Detectives responded to the scene and determined the weapon to be a Sig Sauer P230 with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.
Walters is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
