BOSTON — A drug investigation at Boston Common led to the arrest of a Dorchester man on firearm and narcotics charges Wednesday.
Jermaine Omoregie, 35, was arrested by officers from District A-1 and members of the Youth Violence Strike Force on various drug and firearm charges.
At about 11:10 a.m., a sergeant conducting foot patrol near Boston Common observed a known drug user walking with an unknown male toward Temple Place.
The two individuals began speaking with a male later identified as Omoregie, according to police.
The group walked toward the MBTA station and stopped on the first landing of the stairwell.
One individual was seen holding an unknown item in his left hand, and police believed a street-level drug transaction occurred.
The sergeant stopped two of the individuals and identified himself as a Boston police officer.
Multiple loose pieces of crack cocaine were recovered from the two males, who were advised they would be summonsed to court for possession of Class B substances.
A description and picture of the third suspect was distributed to responding officers.
At about 11:50 a.m., the third suspect was spotted near Bromfield Street and Washington Street.
A second sergeant stopped the suspect inside 375 Washington Street and advised him he was under arrest.
A struggle ensued during which the suspect continued to conceal his right arm against his body.
With assistance from responding officers, the suspect was placed in handcuffs.
A firearm was recovered from the area where the struggle occurred, along with a plastic container of crack cocaine.
District A-1 detectives responded to photograph the scene and evidence.
The recovered firearm was determined to be a Charter Arms PF Lite loaded with six rounds.
Omoregie is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without an FID card, distribution of Class B substances, possession with intent to distribute Class B substances, and armed career criminal level 3.
