AUBURN — Members of the Auburn Police Department were investigating a domestic incident which included an order of protection violation.

The victim in the complaint contacted APD on June 9 stating that the defendant, Kenneth Lafler, was contacting her repeatedly, via Facebook Messenger, text message and voice messages which the victim recognized the voice as Kenneth.

The repeated contact violated a stay away order of protection protecting the victim from Kenneth.

The order states that Kenneth can not be near the victim nor contact her in any way.

On June 10 officers looked for Kenneth at his residence with negative results.

As officers were searching possible addresses and various locations for Kenneth, he was found walking in the area of Bostwick Ave. and Fort St.

Officers made contact with Kenneth at which time he was advised he was under arrest.

Kenneth began resisting arrest attempting to prevent officers from taking him into custody.

As Kenneth was resisting arrest, he threw his cell phone toward an uninvolved individual and advised that person to take his cell phone.

As one of the officers taking Kenneth into custody went to grab Kenneth’s cell phone, Kenneth grabbed ahold of the officer’s arm in an attempt to prevent the officer form taking possession of his cell phone.

Kenneth did so in an attempt to prevent officers from recovering evidence, off of his cell phone, of him contacting the victim.

Kenneth was subsequently taken into custody, transported to APD HQ, and processed on his charges.

Kenneth was charged with: Aggravated Family Offense-Felony Tampering with Physical Evidence-Felony Criminal Contempt 2nd-Misdemeanor Resisting Arrest-Misdemeanor.

Kenneth was processed on his charges and later transported to the Cayuga County Jail where he was being held pending arraignment.
