PORTLAND — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed two antique buses and damaged a nearby building early Wednesday morning.

The Portland Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 464 St. John Street at approximately 3:30 a.m. June 11.

Firefighters found two antique buses parked side-by-side in a yard on fire upon arrival.

The fire extended to a nearby building, but quick response by Portland firefighters limited damage to the building’s exterior and prevented a structure fire.

The Portland Fire Department and Portland Police Department requested assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s Office for the ongoing investigation.

Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office are working in coordination with both departments.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and follow-up investigations are underway.
