Southeast man arrested on weapons charges after shoplifting incident

SOUTHEAST — A Michigan man was arrested on weapons possession charges June 2 after deputies responded to a shoplifting incident at a local supermarket.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a Southeast supermarket at approximately 4:45 p.m. for a previous shoplifter who had returned to the store.

While deputies were arresting Mary Pincus Robles, 41, of Mahopac, N.Y., investigators noticed a male subject attempting to hide behind a vehicle in the parking lot.

They approached the male subject, later identified as Cory J. Mugridge, 34, of Saint Clair, Mich., who admitted to being the boyfriend of the shoplifter and had driven her to the store.

Upon further questioning, deputies located a 9mm pistol in the vehicle along with ammunition.

While attempting to place Mugridge under arrest, he began to resist and was ultimately taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Mugridge was charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree, a class C felony, criminal possession of a weapon 3rd degree, a D felony, criminal possession of a firearm, an E felony, and two class A misdemeanors of resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration 2nd degree.

He was transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility and was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court on June 3.

Mugridge was remanded to the jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

Pincus Robles was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of a weapon for having a stun gun, both class A misdemeanors.

She was issued an appearance ticket and released for a future court date in the Town of Southeast.
