Man cited for DUI after single-vehicle crash in Topsham

TOPSHAM — A 24-year-old Groton man was cited for driving under the influence after a single-vehicle crash on Powder Springs Road on June 10.

Vermont State Police troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks responded to the crash near 518 Powder Springs Road at approximately 10 p.m.

Troopers found a 2022 Subaru WRX off the roadway with minor damage.

The operator, Steven Gardner, declined medical attention and reported no injuries.

During the investigation, troopers observed signs of impairment.

Gardner was screened for DUI, taken into custody and transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing.

He was later released with a citation to appear in Orange County Criminal Court on June 18 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the DUI charge.

Gardner was also issued Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for driving on roadways laned for traffic and operating without liability insurance.

Road conditions were wet and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash.
