Rhode Island police arrest 4 in separate cases involving assault, solicitation, fraud

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island State Police arrested four individuals in separate cases between June 6 and June 9 involving charges ranging from aggravated assault to drug possession.

On June 6, members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Jordan Carl, on an affidavit and arrest warrant from the Middletown Police Department for aggravated assault with a weapon.

Carl was taken into custody without incident and turned over to the Middletown Police Department.

Also on June 6, members of the Computer Crimes Unit arrested Nasir Mahmood, 56, of Providence, for indecent solicitation of a child.

Mahmood was transported to the Wickford Barracks for processing, then to Kent County District Court for arraignment.

Judge Carulo set bail at $5,000 with surety along with limited internet access and no unsupervised contact with minors.

On June 7, members of the Financial Crimes Unit and the Scituate Barracks arrested James Ford, 41, of  Brooklyn, New York, on charges of identity fraud, obtaining property by false pretenses over $1,500, and passing counterfeit bills or notes.

Ford was transported to State Police Headquarters, processed, arraigned by a justice of the peace and transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.

On June 9, members of the HIDTA Task Force arrested Blaze Torres, 20, on charges of possession with intent to deliver a Schedule II controlled substance (fentanyl), possession of a firearm while committing a controlled substance violation, and carrying a pistol without a license or permit.

Torres was transported to the Lincoln Barracks for processing, arraigned by a justice of the peace, then turned over to the ACI Intake Center pending his morning arraignment in Sixth Division District Court.
