NEW BEDFORD — Two people, including a juvenile, were arrested Saturday after detectives recovered two loaded firearms in the south end.
Detectives Stephanie Connolly and Matthew Couture were conducting street-level narcotics operations in the south end sector at 3:30 p.m. May 31.
The detectives observed two males walking north on South Second Street toward the intersection of South Street wearing heavy clothing and ski masks despite the 60-degree temperature.
The males began walking faster after making contact with the police cruiser and hid behind trash storage on Acushnet Avenue.
After making contact with both males, detectives searched the trash storage area and found a black Glock 19 firearm with a high-capacity magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one round in the chamber.
A further search revealed a black Ruger LCP loaded with six rounds of .380 caliber ammunition.
Police arrested Tavarus Lamar Veal, 20, of 64 Hazard Street Apt. R, and a juvenile on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
The juvenile was transported to the Brockton DYS facility.
