CARIBOU — A 38-year-old central Maine man was arrested on drug and firearm charges during a traffic stop early June 5.
Officer Kevin St. Peter was on routine patrol on Baird Road at the intersection of Access Highway just before 1 a.m. when he observed a vehicle traveling westbound.
The vehicle was of interest because a wanted subject had previously been associated with it, according to the Caribou Police Department.
St. Peter began following the vehicle to identify the occupants.
As he was catching up, the vehicle abruptly turned into a residence in an attempt to elude the officer.
St. Peter initiated a traffic stop and attempted to identify the occupants.
He observed the male in the back seat, identified as Neil Marshall, with suspected packages of drugs in plain view on his lap.
Marshall, who is unhoused, was removed from the vehicle and detained.
During a search, more suspected drugs were located on his person along with cash.
Additional suspected drugs and a 9mm handgun were located inside the vehicle.
Marshall was transported to the Caribou Police Department where he was charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, a Class B felony.
He was also charged with possession of Schedule W drugs including fentanyl and cocaine, both Class A felonies.
Marshall was additionally charged with possession of hallucinogens and prescription pills.
Cash valued at more than $1,500 was seized.
Marshall was currently on probation and was held on a probation violation.
He is being held at the Aroostook County Jail.
The other occupants of the vehicle were released.
