NORTH EAST — The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an armed subject in the Town of North East at approximately 12:40 p.m. on June 9.

Deputies initially responded to a residence in Amenia to conduct a welfare check on a male subject.

Upon arrival, the subject was not there but deputies learned he was in a wooded area near the State Route 199/State Route 44 intersection in North East.

The man was armed and had allegedly fired a shot into the air as a warning to those looking for him.

After several hours of negotiation, the man was taken into custody without further incident.

The subject has been identified as Garrett O’Holloran, age 32.

Two firearms were recovered as he was being taken into custody.
