WETHERSFIELD — A wanted vehicle struck an unoccupied police cruiser while fleeing a Cumberland Farms gas station early Sunday morning.

Wethersfield police officers responded to 1855 Berlin Turnpike at approximately 1:31 a.m. June 8 to investigate a Nissan Kicks that Hartford police reported as not being returned to its owner.

Newington police officers had spotted the vehicle with Connecticut registration BT69355 parked in the Cumberland Farms lot near the Newington town line and notified Wethersfield police dispatch.

As officers approached the parked Nissan, the driver put the vehicle in drive and pulled out of the parking space.

The Nissan struck the front end of a Wethersfield police cruiser while leaving the parking spot, causing minor front-end damage.

No injuries were sustained in the collision since the police cruiser was unoccupied.

The incident remains under investigation.
