STOCKPORT — A 16-year-old girl was arrested June 5 after admitting she fabricated a report about a kidnapping that prompted an extensive search by multiple law enforcement agencies.
State Police from the Livingston barracks responded to a 911 call reporting a possible kidnapping in the Town of Stockport.
The caller claimed that a 13-year-old girl had been abducted by unknown individuals in a white van on Atlantic Avenue.
Troopers, along with members of the Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, immediately initiated a search for the alleged vehicle.
After an extensive investigation and search, no such vehicle or victim was located.
Upon further interviews, the 16-year-old admitted that the report was fabricated.
As a result, the individual was arrested and charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree, an A misdemeanor.
She was issued a Family Court appearance ticket, returnable to Columbia County Family Court on June 17 at 9 a.m.
The State Police were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.
