NEWTON — A Newton resident discovered a possible explosive device while cleaning out their property yesterday.
The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad EDO Technician responded to the scene.
The technician determined the item was a mortar and inert, posing no danger to the neighborhood.
Police thanked the resident for contacting authorities immediately upon discovering the item.
The Newton Police Department advises residents who find suspicious or potentially dangerous items such as old firearms, explosives, ammunition or fireworks to not touch them.
Residents should call the Newton Police Department or 911 immediately so authorities can coordinate with appropriate agencies to keep everyone safe.
