MONTVILLE — Police are investigating multiple vehicle thefts and attempted break-ins that occurred Tuesday night in different sections of town.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., two suspects attempted to steal a vehicle from a driveway on Pheasants Run in the Oakdale section of Montville.

The suspects punched the door lock but fled when the car alarm activated.

Between 9 p.m. and 9:20 p.m., a vehicle was stolen from Massachusetts Road without keys inside.

The stolen vehicle was captured on camera traveling southbound on Route 32 toward Waterford.

At approximately 11:15 p.m., a resident reported a suspicious white vehicle on Kitemaug Road with two people walking outside the car.

Police said another Hyundai was stolen from a residence on Maple Avenue at an unknown time.

Both stolen vehicles, a Hyundai and a Kia, were locked without keys inside when the thefts occurred.

Police said certain years and models of Hyundai and Kia vehicles can be stolen without keys due to a social media trend that emerged last year.

The department advises owners of these vehicles to contact local dealerships about security updates to prevent thefts.
