COOPERSTOWN — The Cooperstown Police Department responded to a welfare check at 56 Chestnut Street on June 5 at 1:15 p.m. after receiving a report about a resident who had not been heard from since the beginning of the week.
The caller told police the resident had not shown up for work and expressed concern as this was out of the norm for the individual.
Village police responded directly to the address while a New York State Police trooper from the Richfield Barracks attempted to contact family members who resided in Milford.
After numerous attempts at the door, officers contacted the building’s landlord who met with police to allow entry into the apartment.
The male resident was found deceased inside the apartment.
Cooperstown Police and NYSP Richfield jointly processed the scene.
Police found no sign of foul play and the investigation remains open pending autopsy results.
