COHASSET — Cohasset Police arrested Michael Kelly, 31, of Franklin, for trespassing on the MBTA commuter rail tracks near the Sohier Street railroad crossing Thursday.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Cohasset Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a person unlawfully on the tracks.

Officers responded immediately, and out of caution, all MBTA Greenbush Line trains were held at stations while officers located and safely removed the suspect from the railroad right of way.

“Trespassing on active railroad tracks is not only illegal—it’s extremely dangerous,” said Chief William Quigley of the Cohasset Police Department.

“This type of behavior puts lives at risk, including those of our officers, train crews, and the trespassers themselves.”

Four fatalities have occurred along the railroad tracks in Cohasset in the past two years.

Kelly was taken into custody without incident and is charged with trespassing on railroad property.

He posted bail and was arraigned in Quincy District Court.
