BOSTON — Two people were arrested Thursday night after police caught them spray-painting graffiti on a downtown building wall during what they said was a birthday celebration.
Officers from District A-1 responded to a vandalism call near 103 Arch Street at approximately 11:40 p.m.
Police said an officer monitoring surveillance cameras observed a group outside St. Anthony’s Shrine and identified two individuals involved in the vandalism.
The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old juvenile male and Jahkiya Wideman, 20, of Cambridge.
Officers located and stopped the group, separating the two suspected vandals from the others.
The suspects admitted they had been celebrating Wideman’s birthday and decided to graffiti a wall, according to police.
Investigation revealed the juvenile had been using a paint pen marker.
The graffiti could not be removed at the time of the report, police said.
The 17-year-old was arrested and charged as a delinquent for vandalizing property.
He is scheduled to appear in Boston Juvenile Court.
Wideman was also arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on a charge of vandalizing property.
