DELHI — On June 3, Michael Thiel, 47, of Sidney, appeared in Delaware County Court and pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3 Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree.
As a result of the convictions, it is anticipated that Thiel will be sentenced to a term of 2-4 years in state prison for the weapons charge.
It is further agreed that he will be sentenced to 3 years of incarceration and 2 years of post-release supervision for the controlled substances charge.
On Sept. 10, 2024, Sergeant Chris Dionne and Officer Royce Terry of the Sidney Police Department facilitated the execution of a search warrant at 50 Main Street in Sidney with the assistance of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team.
A loaded pistol as well as narcotics were recovered from the residence.
Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith commended the Sidney Police Department and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for their collaborative efforts in this case.
