ROCHESTER — Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies seized a loaded 9mm pistol with a 30-round magazine from a teenager at Ontario Beach Park on June 4.
Deputies were patrolling the park at about 9 p.m. following a series of disturbance calls.
Deputies worked to disperse a large group of disruptive young people congregated near the pavilions.
An individual separated from the group and was seen running while carrying a handgun.
Deputies apprehended the suspect after a brief pursuit on foot and recovered the loaded weapon.
During the arrest, a deputy sustained a hand injury and required medical evaluation at a local hospital.
Deandre J. Leonard, 19, of Rochester was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony.
Leonard was transported to the Monroe County Jail to await arraignment in CAP Court.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Special Services Group worked with deputies from multiple zones and the Rochester Police Department during the incident.
