New Hartford man arrested in burglary after fleeing on foot

NEW HARTFORD — The New Hartford Police Department responded to a Clinton Road address Wednesday morning at approximately 11:30 a.m. for a report of a possible burglary in progress.

While officers were responding, it was reported that a male suspect had been observed fleeing a residence on foot.

Responding officers located a male matching the description provided by witnesses in the area of State Route 12 at Merritt Place, while other officers arrived at the residence in question to clear the residence and confirm that no one else was inside.

A New Hartford Police investigator also responded to the scene to process the scene for any evidence.

The male located by the officers was later identified as 42-year-old Joshua Marcantel.

Further investigation into this incident indicated that Marcantel had entered the residence to steal property therein.

Marcantel was placed under arrest and charged with burglary in the second degree, a Class D felony, and petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor.

Marcantel was processed on these charges at the New Hartford Police Department and then transported to the Oneida County Jail to be held pending arraignment in the Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Part Court.
