BOSTON — A 27-year-old Belmont man surrendered to Brighton District Court Thursday afternoon on charges stemming from a road rage incident involving a hatchet.

Andrew Oprian turned himself in at about 2 p.m. May 29 and was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property over $1,200.

Oprian is scheduled to appear for a dangerousness hearing at Brighton District Court at 2 p.m. June 5.

The charges stem from an incident at about 11:45 p.m. May 16 when officers assigned to District D-14 responded to the area of 1032 Commonwealth Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

Boston Police Operations informed officers that a man armed with a hatchet was smashing the windows of the crashed vehicle.
