Waterbury police arrest 2 in Facebook Marketplace robberies

WATERBURY — The Waterbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau has arrested two suspects in connection with a series of recent robberies involving items arranged for sale through Facebook Marketplace.

In each incident, a weapon was either displayed or threatened to steal the items being purchased.

The suspects were identified as William Brown, 22, of 148 Plaza Avenue, Waterbury, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, also from Waterbury.

The juvenile was arrested on May 24 and charged with conspiracy to commit larceny 6th degree and conspiracy to commit robbery 1st degree.

On June 2, detectives located and arrested William Brown on an active warrant.

He was charged with two counts of robbery 1st degree, two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery 1st degree, carrying a pistol without a permit and interfering with police.

Brown was also arrested on an unrelated warrant for harassment 2nd degree and threatening 2nd degree.

He is being held on a $775,000 bond pending arraignment.

Additional warrants are being sought in connection with other recent robbery incidents.

At the time of his arrest, Brown was found in possession of a loaded firearm, which is believed to be similar to the one described by victims in the recent robbery incidents and has been recovered by investigators.
