Police warn of fake Connecticut DMV text scam in Bridgeport

1 min read

BRIDGEPORT — Police are warning residents about fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Bridgeport Police Department said Tuesday there have been multiple reports of scam text messages falsely claiming recipients owe money for traffic violations.

The messages include a link urging immediate payment, according to police.

Police said the DMV does not send text messages to the public.

The link in the message is not the official DMV website, police said.

Authorities are advising residents not to click on the link and not to respond to the message.

The texts are designed to trick recipients into giving up personal or financial information, police said.

Police recommend deleting the messages immediately upon receipt.

Residents are advised to visit the DMV’s official website directly when in doubt about communications.
