ORRINGTON — Investigators from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office arrested a 51-year-old man Monday on arson charges connected to a January house fire.

Mark Meierdirk of Orrington was charged with two counts of arson following a months-long investigation into a fire at 978 Brewer Lake Road.

The investigation began Jan. 30 after the fire destroyed the home where Meierdirk was living.

The residence belonged to his family and was a total loss.

Over several months, investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed financial records.

On Monday, the Fire Marshal’s Office executed a search warrant at the property to document items Meierdirk had removed from the residence before the fire and stored in an outbuilding.

Meierdirk faces one count of arson for causing a fire to allow a person to collect insurance proceeds and another count for damaging or destroying the property of another.

He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail with bail set at $10,000 cash.
