Lawrence man arrested in fraudulent check scheme

LAWRENCE — The Lawrence Police Department arrested a Connecticut man Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to cash a fraudulent check using a false identity at Eastern Bank on Essex Street.

Officers responded to the bank following a report of a male suspect attempting the fraudulent transaction.

Upon arrival, responding officers located a male matching the description provided by dispatch.

The individual initially provided a false name to Officer Andres Llerena, the primary investigating officer.

Bank personnel supplied a packet of evidence, including photographs, showing the same suspect attempting similar fraudulent transactions at multiple locations in the region using the same false identity.

After being read his Miranda Rights, the individual disclosed his true identity as Scott Andrew White, 57, of Hampden, Connecticut.

White was arrested and charged with identity fraud, forgery of a check, uttering a false check, larceny over $1,200 by a single scheme, forgery of a document and uttering a false note.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court.
