KINGSTON — A 37-year-old Kingston man was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport on June 2 on a felony warrant for first-degree criminal sexual act.
Faisal Saif was detained by Homeland Security officials and turned over to Kingston police, according to a press release from the Kingston Police Department.
He was transported to Kingston City Police headquarters, processed and held for arraignment.
Saif was arraigned in Kingston City Court on June 3 and released with orders to report to pretrial supervision.
The Kingston Police Department opened an investigation on Feb. 15, 2024, into a sexual assault allegedly committed that day at Rondout Market against a 28-year-old victim.
Upon becoming aware of the investigation, Saif left the United States and reportedly traveled to Yemen, police said.
As evidence developed supporting the allegations, charges were filed in Kingston City Court and an arrest warrant was issued.
