BOSTON — Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force and Roxbury detectives arrested a 60-year-old Dorchester man on robbery and firearm charges following an investigation into the armed robbery of a variety store.
Sylvester Davis was arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from the May 19 armed robbery of the Quincy Variety Store at 236 Quincy Street.
Officers responded to the robbery call at approximately 7:29 a.m. on May 19.
A store employee told police a male suspect had been loitering inside the store before brandishing a firearm and directing the employee to the cash register.
The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and tracked the suspect’s path to an apartment building at 8 Dunkeld Street.
Investigators observed the suspect using a key fob to access the building and matched the digital timestamp to identify the person assigned to the fob.
Police obtained an arrest warrant and executed it Tuesday at 8 Dunkeld Street.
Officers found Davis in the bathroom in possession of the key fob used during the robbery.
Police also arrested 41-year-old Keon Simpson of Brockton, who had an active warrant for violating an Abuse Prevention Order.
Neither man was a resident of the apartment, and the official tenant was reportedly away receiving medical care.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the apartment and recovered a loaded 9mm ghost gun containing nine rounds of ammunition.
Davis faces charges of masked armed robbery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and armed career criminal.
Both men are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
