Syracuse man arrested for DWI after nearly hitting state police vehicle

1 min read

SYRACUSE — A marked State Police vehicle was traveling on East Seneca Turnpike in the City of Syracuse on June 1 at 2:41 a.m.

As troopers approached the intersection of South Salina Street, they observed a grey Jeep SUV fail to stop at the red light and make a right turn onto East Seneca Turnpike.

The vehicle then crossed the double-solid line into the path of the State Police vehicle.

This caused troopers to take evasive action to avoid being struck by the vehicle.

Troopers then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and interviewed the driver, identified as Odell L. Tillie Jr., age 30, from Syracuse.

Tillie appeared to be intoxicated and was run through standardized field sobriety testing, which he subsequently failed.

Tillie was placed under arrest and transported to SP Lafayette where he provided a breath test sample of 0.17% BAC.

Tillie was charged with driving while intoxicated, several traffic violations, and released with appearance tickets returnable to the city of Syracuse Court at a later date.
