NORWALK — A 34-year-old Norwalk man was arrested June 2 on multiple assault weapon and drug charges following a months-long narcotics investigation by police.
Melvin Colon of 265 Wilson Avenue was taken into custody in a parking lot near his residence on five outstanding arrest warrants related to narcotics sales, according to the Norwalk Police Department.
The investigation began in January after numerous community complaints about drug sales in the area of 265 Wilson Avenue, police said.
Officers from the Special Services Division used various investigative techniques and obtained four search warrants and five arrest warrants for Colon during the investigation.
During his arrest, Colon was found in possession of two baggies of suspected cocaine, police said.
A subsequent search of Colon’s apartment yielded two firearms, suspected narcotics, drug packaging materials and scales, according to police.
Officers seized a Polymer 80 9mm pistol ghost gun and a Charles Daly PAK 9 assault pistol with a 50-round high-capacity drum magazine and a 30-round high-capacity 9mm magazine.
Police also confiscated 153.23 grams of suspected cocaine and $20,108 in cash.
Colon faces five counts each of possession and sale of narcotics from the arrest warrants.
Additional charges from the arrest and search include altering a firearm serial number, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, two counts each of illegal possession of large capacity magazines and assault weapons, two counts of negligent storage of firearms, use of drug paraphernalia and operation of a drug factory.
Colon is being held on $500,000 total bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 16.
