MALTA — New York State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Route 9 and State Route 9P in the town of Malta on June 1 at approximately 9:03 p.m. involving a marked State Police patrol vehicle.
A preliminary investigation determined that the trooper was traveling northbound on State Route 9 and proceeded through the green light at the intersection of State Route 9P and East High Street.
At the same time, a Mazda traveling southbound on Route 9 attempted to turn left onto Route 9P and failed to yield the right of way, striking the patrol vehicle.
The driver of the Mazda, identified as Denis R. Collingwood, age 26, of Ballston Spa, exhibited signs of impairment during the investigation.
He was subsequently arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs.
The trooper was taken to Malta Med for evaluation and was released.
Collingwood was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Malta Town Court on June 26.
