ENFIELD — A 27-year-old Enfield man has been charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle in connection with a fatal head-on collision that killed two people last August.

Christian Andrade turned himself in to Enfield Police Department headquarters Monday morning after an arrest warrant was issued.

The crash occurred Aug. 23, 2024, at approximately 1:39 p.m. on Enfield Street just north of the intersection with South Road.

Police said Andrade was driving southbound in the northbound travel lane at excessive speed when his vehicle struck another vehicle head-on.

The other vehicle was driven by 63-year-old Ira Anopolsky of Enfield, who was transported to the hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The front seat passenger in Anopolsky’s vehicle, 63-year-old Patricia Carey of Enfield, died from her injuries at the scene.

Both vehicles rolled over after impact, according to police.

Blood test results indicated Andrade had alcohol and marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.

In addition to the manslaughter charges, Andrade was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs, speeding and failure to maintain lane.

Andrade was released on $500,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 17.
