ROME — A 32-year-old woman was arrested Monday on animal cruelty charges after police say she failed to provide adequate medical treatment for a dog with severe injuries.
Carrie J. Bush was taken into custody and charged with failure to provide sustenance under Agriculture and Market Law 353, a class A misdemeanor.
The Rome Police Patrol Division began investigating May 14 after receiving a complaint from the Humane Society of Rome about a dog in their custody with a significant leg injury that appeared to have been neglected.
The investigation revealed the dog had sustained a broken jaw and a severely broken leg.
The injuries to the dog’s leg were so severe that amputation was required.
Police determined Bush had failed to provide the dog with adequate treatment for its injuries.
While in custody Monday, Bush was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, also a class A misdemeanor.
Bush was held for arraignment and then released pending a later court date.
