Portland police arrest fugitive after foot chase, drug seizure

PORTLAND — Police arrested a fugitive Thursday evening after a foot chase that resulted in drug trafficking charges and minor injuries to two officers.

Officers with the Portland Police Department’s Crime Reduction Unit were working the area of Portland Street and Forest Avenue at 7:02 p.m. May 29 when they observed a man remove what appeared to be a small baggie of drugs from his pants.

The individual fled when officers attempted to question him.

After a foot chase, the suspect was taken into custody just after he threw the plastic baggie to the ground.

Two officers received minor injuries during the chase and apprehension.

One officer was treated at Mercy Hospital and released and has since returned to work.

Jaulil Williams, 36, was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice by the U.S. Marshal Service.

He will also face charges for unlawful trafficking in schedule drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, failure to provide correct name and refusing to submit to arrest or detention.

He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

Williams was in possession of 17.1 grams of cocaine base, 11.5 grams of crack cocaine, six Oxycodone pills and $2,990 in cash.
