BOSTON — A 16-year-old male was arrested on firearm-related charges Saturday during a robbery investigation in Hyde Park.

Officers assigned to District E-18 made the arrest at approximately 5:46 p.m. in the area of 14 Winter Street while canvassing the area surrounding Wolcott Square in connection with an unarmed robbery.

Police observed four males congregating in front of 10 Glenwood Avenue, with several individuals known to officers from a previous firearm-related investigation.

Officers continued their patrol through the area, driving down Winter Street and onto Reservation Road when they observed the same group of males walking toward the cruiser.

Upon noticing the officers, the group abruptly turned and fled in the opposite direction while clutching their waistbands.

Officers pursued the suspects on foot as three of them ran into a backyard on Winter Street, where two jumped a fence.

Officers apprehended the third individual who remained behind.

During the arrest, a loaded gray 9mm Beretta handgun fell from the front pocket of the suspect’s sweatshirt.

The firearm contained one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.

Detectives responded to the scene and recovered the weapon.

A K-9 officer and K-9 Dwight were called in to assist with a further search of the area.

During the sweep, K-9 Dwight located a second firearm, later identified as a Glock 27.

The 16-year-old male is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Detectives assigned to District E-18 are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
