COLONIE — A 46-year-old Colonie man was arrested after an hours-long standoff with police Sunday following a domestic incident on Van Heusen Street.
Dennis P. Farrell was taken into custody just after 8 p.m. after police responded to a domestic incident call at approximately 1 p.m.
A full stay-away order of protection was in place, and Farrell refused to surrender to police.
During the incident, Farrell made phone calls stating he was armed with a gun inside the residence.
Due to his threats of violence, the Colonie Police Special Services Team was called to the scene.
A Glock Model 17 9mm handgun was recovered inside the residence.
Farrell does not possess a pistol permit and is further prevented from possessing firearms due to the active order of protection.
The origin of the firearm is still under investigation.
Farrell was charged with burglary with criminal intent, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon and disobeying a court mandate.
He was arraigned in Colonie Court Monday and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
Farrell is scheduled to return for a preliminary hearing Wednesday at 6 p.m.
