Troy police arrest two men following drug investigation

TROY — Detectives from the Troy Police Department’s Special Operations Section arrested two men following an investigation into drug activity that started with a traffic stop on Friday, May 23, at about 1:00 p.m.

Detectives observed the subject of an ongoing drug investigation, identified as Antwon A. Cooper, 37, of Albany, riding as a passenger in a vehicle near 4th Street and Polk Street.

Troy Police Patrol Units attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield.

During the incident, Cooper exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

Officers pursued Cooper and apprehended him near Colleen Road and Campbell Avenue.

Police conducted a search and found Cooper in possession of approximately 95 grams of cocaine.

Cooper was taken into custody, held at the Troy Police Department, arraigned the next morning in Troy City Court, and subsequently released.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as James E. Keyes, 34, of Schenectady, left the scene on May 23.

Through investigation, officers located Keyes and took him into custody on Wednesday, May 28.

Keyes was charged with misdemeanor offenses and vehicle and traffic infractions, then released with an appearance ticket.

Cooper faces charges including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with intent to sell, criminal possession of a controlled substance/narcotics, criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second degree, and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.

Keyes faces charges including obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree.

The investigation began following a tip submitted to the Troy Police Department’s anonymous online portal.
