KENT — An Ossining man was arrested late May 28 on narcotics and driving while intoxicated charges following a traffic stop on Route 301 in the Town of Kent, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy conducting routine patrol at approximately 10:30 p.m. came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway near Hortontown Road and initiated contact with the driver.
Authorities said the driver, identified as 30-year-old Diego G. Estrada, appeared to be intoxicated and was taken into custody.
During the investigation, deputies reportedly discovered two bags containing a substance consistent with cocaine inside Estrada’s vehicle.
A third similar bag was found in Estrada’s possession when he was booked into the Putnam County Correctional Facility, the sheriff’s office said.
Estrada was charged with criminal possession of narcotic drugs in the third and fourth degrees, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and second-degree promoting prison contraband.
He also faces two infractions: refusal to take a breath test and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway.
Estrada was held overnight and arraigned the following morning in Kent Town Court.
He was released on his own recognizance and ordered to report to Putnam County Probation to be fitted with an electronic ankle monitor.
