Troy police arrest 24-year-old in April shots fired incident

TROY — Troy police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a shots fired incident that occurred in late April.

On Monday, April 28 at around 4:00 p.m., Troy patrol officers were dispatched to the area of 1st Street near Monroe Street after Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety dispatchers received an emergency call reporting shots fired.

Officers arriving at the scene located evidence in the area.

No injuries were reported.

Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation begun by patrol officers.

Several leads were developed, and detectives from the Special Operations Section were able to identify a suspect.

The case was presented to the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office and brought before a grand jury.

A Rensselaer County Court indictment was subsequently issued.

The defendant, identified as Angel E. Huertas-Lugo, was already incarcerated at the Albany County Correctional Facility for an unrelated case.

Huertas-Lugo was arrested on May 28 and brought to Rensselaer County Court for arraignment before being returned to the Albany County Correctional Facility.

He faces charges of first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Troy police said the investigation was assisted by the Albany Police Department.
