SAND LAKE — State police are investigating a drowning at Burden Lake that left a 31-year-old Averill Park man dead on May 26.
Troopers responded at about 1:50 p.m. to the area of Glen Royal Road for reports of a possible drowning.
An investigation determined that James A. Slater was seen struggling to stay above water by Good Samaritans.
Slater then became unconscious and was pulled from the lake by bystanders.
Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene until law enforcement and emergency medical services arrived.
Slater was pronounced deceased at the scene.
